Asaltante de bancos estadounidense. Detenido en 1924 en un asalto frustrado a un almacén de Mooresville, Ind., permaneció varios años en las cárceles del estado de Indiana, donde aprendió el oficio de asaltar bancos con profesionales implacables. Después de salir en libertad bajo palabra en 1933, con ayuda de uno y hasta cuatro compañeros, cometió cinco asaltos a bancos de Indiana y Ohio en un lapso de cuatro meses. Detenido y encarcelado otra vez, escapó con ayuda de otros reclusos, cuya propia huida había organizado y financiado anteriormente. Con su pandilla asaltó bancos en Indiana y Wisconsin, y huyeron al sur, a Florida, y de ahí a Tucson, Ariz., en donde la policía local los detuvo. En 1934 empleó una pistola de madera para lograr escapar nuevamente de una prisión de Indiana. Su fin llegó gracias a una emboscada que le tendieron el FBI (Oficina federal de investigación), la policía de Indiana y una amiga suya, Anna Sage, regenta de un burdel. La conocida "dama de rojo lo atrajo al Biograph Theatre, en Chicago, donde, a la salida, lo ultimaron a tiros.
